The Real Fits

This Friday marks a milestone for The Real Fits. They will be releasing their new EP “Drown in Gold” at none other than the Crescent Ballroom. Considering they just celebrated their first year together as a band in October, that is quite a way to go out in style. I will confess straightaway that TRF is one of my personal favorites. They put on a killer live show, their music you can catch online and then purchase on Friday at the show is top notch, and they are super supportive of the music scene here in Phoenix. They can always be found out in the audience supporting locals (including my band). Add to that a hard work ethic and playing tons of shows and you have a recipe for success. Raquel, Jared, Blair, and Nick are guaranteed to bring it every time you see them perform.

How did you come together as a band?

We came together when Jared moved to Phoenix to start a band with Blair. About ten months later we found Raquel online and shortly after we found Nick as well. We celebrated our very first “Bandiversary” in October

Give me your 3 influences on your instrument or voice

Thom Greene – Drums

Jonny Greenwood – Guitar

Kevin Parker – Bass

Tell me something about the band that no one knows, at least not until now.

One day we jammed for 12 hours and played the same song for about 3 hours straight.

What is your worst or most embarrassing on-stage occurrence for the band or one of you personally?

Embarassing huh? One of our favorite moments was when Jared fell backward from rocking out too hard and took out half of Blair’s drum set. We continued to play the song and watched that video for what seemed like a million times afterwards.

Let’s pretend each of you never met and you can start a band with ANY musician. Who is it?

Raquel – If I could start a band with ANY musicians, it would definitely be these guys named Blair, Jared and Nick.

Each of you share with me your favorite song of all time

Raquel – Total cop out but I’m doing three. Giant Peach by Wolf Alice, Milk by Kings of Leon and Some Unloly War by Amy Winehouse (ed. note – This may explain why I like TRF, I love Wolf Alice and Giant Peach is a great song)

Nick- Paul by Big Thief

Blair- Where You End and I Begin by Radiohead

Jared – Dissolve Me by Alt-J

What song do you wish you had written?

Raquel – Giant Peach by Wolf Alice

Nick – Nausea by Jeff Roenstock

Blair – Gin and Juice by Snoop Doggy Dog

Jared – Who Knows Who Cares by Local Natives

Now tell me your favorite song by a LOCAL band

Raquel – Butter Pop by B.O.T.S.

Nick – I Can’t Handle Change by rØår

Blair – Olivine by El West

Jared – Thin Air by El West

Favorite place to play live, and why?

The Rogue Bar, hands down. It was the first place we played as a band and the first place to ive us a show. We always party the hardest after playing at The Rouge. You are the best Manny and Craig!

Best place to hear you, live at a venue or on your recorded work?

The best place to hear us is at Crescent Ballroom on December 30th! 🙂

Name at least 3 local bands our readers need to see or hear

El West, Broken Girls from Affluent Backgrounds, Cheap Hotels, B.O.T.S. and LUAU

Give me ONE word to describe the local music scene

What, if anything, would you change about our local scene?

The local scene has a mix of everything. We’ve made some incredible friends and become legitimate fans of some local bands but there are some things we would like to see improve. We played in Tucson a little while back with the bad ass band Pipelights. We had an amazing experience because of how outgoing and friendly they were towards us. We hung out before and after the show, danced for each other sets, and had a great time! We wish we had similar stories like that about the Phoenix scene.

Shamelessly promote now, What is coming up for you? List everything you can think of.

Crescent Ballroom on December 30th of course! It is the release show for our debue EP “Drown in Gold” and the last time we will be playing in Phoenix for months. With guests like El West, PIPELIGHTS and LUAU it is guaranteed to be the shit!

Final Thoughts, anything goes

So mark your calendar and make plans to head out to Crescent Ballroom this Friday and catch The Real Fits so you don’t have to wait a few months to see them play! I’m going to go out on a limb and guarantee you will have a good time and hear some great music. Plus you can check out some of the sweet new swag they have available! As always, keep scrolling and check out their social media links and music below!
